Statistics Primer PDF Print E-mail

The Team section has a feature that managers may find useful.  There is a statistics module that will track the players individual statistics.  This article will give you a short primer on how to enter the data and what the different items are.

You should enter the statistics at the same time that you enter the game scores.  As of May 14 you can now edit the statistics after the game scores hvae been entered.

The legend shows what different statistics are being tracked, but what are these?

Legend:

Let's start with the Batting items.

Items you enter:

Runs Batted In (RBI) = Runs scored due to the actions of the batter.

Base on Balls (BB).

Struck Out (K).

Ground Out (GO) = Any play where the batter hit the ball and a fielder made a play to get him/her out at first base.

Fly Out (FO) = Any time the batter hits a fly ball which is caught by a fielder.

Fielder's Choice (FC) = Any time the batter reaches first base because the fielder chose to make a play somewhere else.  Also enter as a fielder's choice any time the batter reaches first base due to an error.

Hit by Pitch (HBP) = Any time the batter reaches first base due to being hit by a pitch.

Sacrifice (SAC) = Any kind of sacrifice out.

Interference (INT) = Any time the batter reaches first base due to any kind of interference.

Singles (1B).

Doubles (2B).

Triples (3B).

Home Runs (HR).

Runs (R) = Runs scored.

Stolen Bases (SB).

Caught Stealing (CS).

Items calculated for you:

Plate Appearances (PA) = (All of the ways to get on base) + (All of the ways to not get on base).

Hits (H) = Singles + Doubles + Triples + Home Runs.

At Bats (AB) = Plate Appearances - Sacrifices - Base on Balls - Hit by Pitch - Interference.

Batting Average (AVG) = Hits / At Bats.

On Base Percentage (OBP) = (Hits + Base on Balls + Fielder's Choice + Hit by Pitch + Interference) / Plate Appearances.

Slugging Percentage (SLG) = (Total bases attained by a hit) / At Bats.

OK, now for the Pitching items.

Items you enter:

Total Pitches (TP)

Innings Pitched (IP)

Runs Allowed (Runs) = Total of all runs scored by runners who reached base while pitching even if the run scored after the pitcher was replaced by another pitcher.

Earned Runs (ER) = Total of all runs scored by runners who reached base while pitching even if the run scored after the pitcher was replaced by another pitcher.  Runs scored by runners who reached base because of a defensive error are not included.

Hits (H) = Hits given up.

Strikeouts (K) = Total number of batters who receive 3 strikes.  Note for Junior and higher divisions this includes times that a batter may reach first base after a third strike is not caught by the catcher.

Walks (BB)

Wins (W).  Enter a 1 if the pitcher is the winning pitcher, otherwise enter 0.
